THX for this Driver :-)
It works fine to me, but starting X takes 1 minute to start now.
Hmm, strange. Works fine for me. What card model have you got?
It generally works, but crashes for example with flashplayer and freezes the computer with screensaver
Hmm strange. What chipset do you have? Works just fine on my CN400.
I have Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo L7310GW notebook with Unichrome KM400 chipset. Screensaver freezes only when Random option is selected, every other option works fine.
This is a known issue since SuSE 10. It is not related specifically to the unichrome drivers. I have encountered this problem several times on machines I have shipped since SuSE 10.
Can you generate the binaries for x86_64?
thanks!
Please... can you make this, I also need this rpm because I don´t have a internet connection, PLEASE... Thank you...
greetings from colombia.
PD: Sorry for my english
OK guys, RPMs for x86-64 are now available as well.
BTW I hope you'll appreciate it by using the PayPal icon above as I did not need them for myself and build them especially for you ;-)
i cant find the download for the x86_64, i bet its right in front of my face but i don't see it anywhere.
Thanks Michal ! I was happy Google found this !
According to Openchrome website there is:
openChrome X driver, XvMC driver and DRM source code
So is this just the first part ?
Still a newbie but I managed to get the latest V4L working last night (including dual HDTV card) and am working on the mplayer patch and install now !
Ian
Do I compile the drivers (as stipulated in the diff file) or just install it ? In this last case Wich rpms do I install ?
Tx
Just install the RPMs provided unless you really want to recompile them yourself.
Simply download all RPMs from OpenSUSE-10.1//RPMS/i586 and then run "rpm -Fvh *"
Hi
I am using a new UMPC with the VN800 on suse 10.0
I took the most important rpms (server, libs etc) and it get this in XFree log. Also hte screen stays dark . But X is up and doesnt complain beside the ID`s l. it has a 7" LCD attached and runs 800x480 in windows .. please help
Better ask the guys from www.openchrome.org as they know the driver much better than me.
Have installed rpm well and fine.
Cannot reconfigure /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
I have tried replacing every instance of
"vesa" with "via" and with "unichrome" - no luck.
Where can I find a sample xorg.conf?
This is my "Device" section from xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
# Driver "vesa"
Driver "via"
Option "EnableAGPDMA" "On"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
Section "Device"
BoardName "Framebuffer Graphics"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
# Driver "fbdev"
Driver "via"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Option "ShadowFB"
Screen 0
VendorName "VESA"
EndSection
Para todos los que necesitan la configuracion del xorg simplemente cambien en la seccion Device la palabra "fbdev" o "vesa" por "via" y listo.
For everybody who need the configuration of the xorg simply change into the section Device the word "fbdev" or "vesa" for "via" and that's all.
thank you, that did the trick
Can you make the binary files for OpenSUSE 10.2??? Thank you (Work me fine in 10.1)
OK, 10.2 for x86 is now available. x86-64 will come ... sometime in the future ;-)
could someone who managed to do this and get it to work write a simple guide for us newbies i've only been using linux for a few months and michaels guide is not very newby friendly
tis scary thanx
It isn't scary. You don't have to compile the package! Simply download the prebuilt RPMs and run "rpm -Fvh *". Then change "vesa" or "fbdev" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to "via" and you're done.
thanks for these...but even after these 3D acceleration is not supported. Can anyone guide.
What does it mean "not supported"? What have you changed, tried, ...? Any error messages?
I too have 3-D problems with Suse 10.2. glxgears gives me about 400 fps. chromium complains about no 3D capabilities. glxinfo reports no direct rendering. General X instability when using 3-D - glxinfo will work once, then crash X the next time.
Is there a specific libGL.so that has to be used for this driver? My existing libGL.so doesn't seem to use unichrome_dri.so.
Any helpful hints welcome!
Thanks for the Suse packages!
B.D.
(And as an aside, do you know where I might find the vt1211.ko module for Suse 10.2? Thx)
P.S. Aside from the problems listed above, everything seems to look ok. - kernel reports agp & drm, Xorg.0.log shows "(II) VIA(0): direct rendering enabled" and seems to be happy, etc. Hence I suspect a different libGL.so is needed...
I don´t have any "pictures" when playing videos in my laptop (CHIPSET VN800).
I Have installed all codecs, but not work.
try to set video driver to xshm in xine engine parameters (video section) of your xine-based video player
Hello,
I downloaded all 19 rmp files to a directory, and ran the command rmp -Fvh *, but got the error listed below:
Suse:/home/martin/Documents/OpenUnichrome downloads # rpm -Fvh *
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]

Any ideas?
Sincerely,
Martin Ames
I found the answer, which was posted on the site to begin with. It was - "rpm -Uvh *", which worked fine.
Where did you get xorg-x11-driver-video-6.9.0-46.20 from? It isn't part of OpenSUSE 10.1 afaik. What is your suse version? Some SLES or SLED perhaps? Please run rpm -qi xorg-x11-driver-video and tell me what you get.
I have the same problem. The rpm is from downloaded DVD
please help me, how to configure 3D/openGL setting or enable 3D so i can play games, i still can't play games after installing the driver.
Driver works GREAT! I can finalz have 1280x800 :) but I would like to know how to enable 3D acc also. TNX!
Hi!
I greatly appreciate your work in supplying binary packages of OpenChrome for various distributions. Now, as always, there's room for wishes ;-)
I'm running openSuSE 10.2 on an x86_64 architecture and desperately need a good driver for my VIA K8M890 chipset. I'd owe you quite a few beers if you could help me...
Robert
Robert
Hi! thank you for all the job you do (for us).
I'm exactly in the same situation, same Chipset. Please, can you make a rpm for openSuSE 10.2 x86_64 ?

Hi!
I'm exactly in the same situation, can you make a driver for openSuSE 10.2 x86_64?
I too run openSUSE 10.2 on an x86_64 architecture and am in need of the openchrome driver for my computer.
Guys, honestly, what's SO difficult on getting the source RPM from the OpenSUSE-10.2 ling above and recompiling on your 64bit linuxes??? It's next to trivial.
I don't have 10.2 on x86-64 available right now. Once I get my hands on it I may recompile it for you. But for now do your homework and recompile it yourself if you're in so desperate need of this driver.
I have tried doing that, but I am a newbie, and therefore quite at a loss to see the following error crop up everytime I try the
rpmbuild --recompile
command. After some progress in recompiling the package this is what happens
+ autoreconf -fi
configure.ac:48: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_DISABLE_STATIC
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.ac:49: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_PROG_LIBTOOL
autoreconf: /usr/bin/autoconf failed with exit status: 1
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.604 (%build)
Help will be much appreciated
I've found this driver:
http://software.opensuse.org/download/X11:/Drivers:/Video:/openchrome/openSUSE_10.2/x86_64/xorg-x11-driver-video-openchrome-061206-4.1.x86_64.rpm
Just rpm -Uvh xorg-x11-driver-video-openchrome-061206-4.1.x86_64.rpm
Follow the FAQ.2 instructions, restarted X and it worked!
Hope that helps
Thanks Vladimir for your help.
However on my system when I modified my initial xorg.conf which was like:-
Section "Device"
Board name "Framebuffer Graphics"
Bus Id "1:0:0"
Driver "fbdev"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Vendor name "VESA"
EndSection
to the following:-
Board name "Framebuffer Graphics"
Bus Id "1:0:0"
Driver "via"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Vendor name "VESA"

Hello,
i have the same problem with my laptop FSC Amilo 3270. I have a unichrome pro igp graficcard.
What can we do now to fix that problem. I dont want to use the VESA driver ... :)
Installing the driver was very easy, the two lines of instructions was enough
thanks
And how to enable DRI? Modules drm, via and via_agp are loaded, xorg.conf has Load "dri", but log says:
(II) Loading extension XFree86-DRI
(**) VIA(0): Option "MaxDRIMem" "16384"
(==) VIA(0): DRI IRQ will be enabled if DRI is enabled.
(**) VIA(0): AGP DMA will be enabled if DRI is enabled.
(==) VIA(0): PCI DMA will be used for XV image transfer if DRI is enabled.
(**) VIA(0): Will impose a 16384kB limit on video-ram set aside for DRI.
(EE) VIA(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.
(WW) VIA(0): [XvMC] Cannot use XvMC without DRI!
(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
Addition. Xorg log now say DRI is enabled, but glxinfo say no direct rendering:
# log
(II) VIA(0): [DRI] installation complete
Fulfilled via DRI at 12587008
(II) GLX: Initialized DRI GL provider for screen 0
# glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No
Ok, glxinfo says:
direct rendering: Yes
So here is quick info how I did it:
First, XORG dri installation. I had to download kernel drm modules for via Unichrome from: http://repos.opensuse.org/X11:/Drivers:/Video:/openchrome/openSUSE_10.2/i586/
I have used drm-default version of drivers.
At this stage Xorg.0.log confirms that DRI is working, but glxinfo does not.
Second, glx 3d. I had to move two files from /etc/profile.d/ to backup folder. Two files are via.sh and via.csh. Glxinfo was reporting drm was off because the two files were setting variable LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1.
After restart, glxinfo reports drm is working.
Tutorial for this is at http://en.opensuse.org/VIA
Hi,it seems that the opensuse build is a little unstable on my ek10000 board. 3d accell worked fine.
I need a openchrome driver for K8M890ce ChipSet, please, i using OpenSuse 10.2 for i386 =/
I'm using the openchrome driver, and it's working fine. But dri, doesn't. When i enable dri on xorg.conf options(load dri), the screen get's black and no image appears, even if i try ctrl+alt+F1 to get back to console. But when i do ctrl+alt+del(the only way i find) the computer reboots normaly. It's like the screen was frozen. And there's no pray that make it works. I'm using a asus Km400 motherboard.
just read above section:
Jan 29 13:39 Re: Re: Opensuse 10.2 DRI [DRI is working now] (by Aleksandar)
I have been trying to get the driver to work for OpenSuse 10.2 kernel 2.6.18.2-34-default. But the xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33_openchrome.i586.rpm is designed from the openchrome trunk, i decided to recompile the driver based on the guides available from openchrome.org. I compiled the drivers based on the modular driver compilation of the following guide http://wiki.openchrome.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Compiling+the+source+code and the DRM using the following guide http://wiki.openchrome.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=K8M890. After that im stuck. I can get SAX2 to recognize my via drivers. Please help me out as to configure the Via k8m890 drivers for opensuse. Also i use a ViewSonic LCD VSC VA702. When i try to modify the xorg.conf to match the one given in the FAQs on ur page, i get an OUT-OF-RANGE message and X doesnt load.
Thanks.
You can start sax2 with option -m 0=via: that worked for me
I have MSI K9VGM-V motherboard and integrated VIA VIA K8K890 card. My operating system is OpenSUSE-10.2. I installed xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33_openchrome.i586.rpm with YAST and changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf Driver "vesa" to Driver "via". X doesn't start i can reboot just to command prompt. When i change xorg.conf driver via back to vesa, X starts again.
Could someone help me? If i should give more information, please ask things wich you need to know
Oops, i didn't notice that Antony FM asked the same thing just above
Heloo...
My name is Jimmy, I have a k9vgm-v mother board, and I have the same problem that you.
Could you help me if you already managed to solve the problem?
Thank you!!! :)

don't know english, sorry. =)
i followed instructions i got here http://en.opensuse.org/VIA and deleted the two files via.sh and via.csh from /etc/profile.d/ and when i ran glxinfo it showed that dri was enabled that was great but problem came when my screensaver tried to load my whole screen froze like everything just froze even cntrl+alt+del did not work i have to restore the two files for everything to work is there anyone who can help me with this .
Another thing my xserver is very unstable it crashes while watching a movie or random fast screen is there any fix for this thanks guys
I followed the FAQ instructions on my opensuse 10.2 and it worked perfectly. Thanks guys. Keep up the good work.
I have an ASUS K8V-VM motherboard with an integrated VIA K8M890 grafik chipset. I tried the new xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33_openchrome302.i586.rpm under OpenSuse 10.2 with the kernel 2.6.18.8-0.1-default. But the Xorg fails to start.

I'm having exactly the same problem with the same chipset. It keeps telling me "(EE) No devices detected."
I'm using a Shuttle xPC, Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and 1GB of RAM.
64 bit system: After a successful make and make install you have to copy "via_drv.so" to "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers" and not like described to "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers". That costs me a lot of time.
Hi Guys,
I have the same issue.
Did you get your's to work?
I would really appreciate assistance.
Thank you
Louis Putter
At me the same problem. What it is possible to make with it?
Thank you for the xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33_openchrome302.i586.rpm .
I have installed it on my notebook Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2030 (video P4M800) and it works fine with OpenSUSE 10.2 . I
i am having a P5VD2-VM motherboard with integrated P4M900 chipset and i am having similar problems with Anthony FM and Krieger .I have installed the rpm through Yast and changed the Device part of xorg.conf with "via" in the place of "fbdev" but all i get is a message in /var/log/message saying :" Mar 24 20:56:40 linux-val kdm: :0[8372]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay

oops ! I forgot to mention my OS version .It 's opensuse 10.2 and the processor is Intel 's Core 2 Duo 6600
I have notebook FSC Amilo 3515 with P4M900 and have same problems. I know, that there is a working branch od openchrome which should support this chipset. Michal, please, can you compile the branch driver too?
Michale, prosim, prosim :-) Rad prispeju pokud se ten zatracenej chipset podari rozchodit. Diky, Tomas
Installed the OpenChrome drivers with no problems. Screen updates "MUCH" faster now. Thanks.
Everything works except GoogleEarth - starting it causes the screen to blank and X to be restarted. I reinstalled GoogleEarth but problem remains.
Any way to get GoogleEarth to use the new drivers?
I've installed the rpm, changed the driver to "via" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and still it lags when I scroll. Using rpm -qa I can see that the rpm is installed.
Im using Suse 10.2 64bit. I'd appreciate any help.
Ooops, n00b mistake.
Was changing the name which had VESA in it instead of driver :|
Hi, I use openSuse 10.2 and I've been exploring the possibility of having 3D fun staff running (AIGXL+Beryl). The thing is I tried once and I "destroyed"my system. I realized that I may not have the right drivers for my chipset. (I asked for help here: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=32700&hl= )
I've a VIA PM800 chipset

I'm not sure if I need these rpms. In Yast> Hardware>Graphic Card monitor I'm told to have "VESA framebuffer Graphics".
I don't understand a lot about hardware so I've no idea if you may need any other info. What do you think?. Should I install them?
Thanks in advance.

What can I do?
Dear Michal!
Would U like to compile xorg-driver for K8M890 chipset? Please... Sorry, I'm not a programmer.
Solo "Framebuffer" i 800x600.
Imposible 2D o 3D.
HELP ME, amigos!
Changing "fbdev" to "vesa" in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf will at least give you more alternatives about resolution.
I don't find a driver for my integrated Gfx in North brige.
This driver - xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33_openchrome302.i586.rpm does not work.

As soon as I make it ;-)
I don't even have 10.3 downloaded yet.
Did you download Open Suse 10.3 yet? :-)
ETA for the package?
Hi,
I'm searching for the driver P4890 for Suse 10.3.
And how can I install it?

Hi,
RPM installs fine, but X11 doesn't start with message

i have the same problem and your answer doesn't help.
i had changed the driver to "via" and get the result :
(EE) No devices detected
What do i have to do?
AFAIK CX700M2 is only supported in the experimental branch of OpenChrome.
sorry, my hardware is another one.
it worked with OpenSUSE 10.2.
but now, it doesn't.

Hi Michal, could you help me with this problem? I am using the xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33_openchrome302.i586.rpm in OpenSuse10.2 on my notebook Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2030 (video P4M800), under KDE. It works fine. The only problem is in wine window. When I move the mouse cursor to the wine window, the mouse cursor disappears. I think it depends on the via driver. If I change the video driver from "via" to "vesa" in xorg.conf , I can see the mouse cursor in wine. I tested the problem with wine 0.9.47 and also 0.9.24 . Thanks, Jiri
It was solved after setting the option for SW cursor in xorg.conf :
Section "Device"
BoardName "Framebuffer Graphics"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "via"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Screen 0
VendorName "VESA"
Option "SWCursor" "true"
EndSection
Jiri
How do I get Sax2 to not overwrite my changes
Section "Device"
BoardName "Framebuffer Graphics"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "via"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Screen 0
VendorName "VIA"
EndSection
with it's auto-detected settings?
Section "Device"
BoardName "Framebuffer Graphics"
Driver "fbdev"
Identifier "Device[0]"
VendorName "VESA"
EndSection
aaronj
try this next to BoardName "opencchrome" or your via card's name in my case I wrote in "UniChromePro IGP" this works for me YMMV.
Bob I
Mileage didn't vary at all... Still didn't work. I noticed this in the HW info from YAST:
<7>Boot video device is 0000:01:00.0
<6>vesafb: framebuffer at 0xf0000000, mapped to 0xf8880000, using 10240k, total 65536k
<6>vesafb: mode is 1280x1024x16, linelength=2560, pages=24
<6>vesafb: protected mode interface info at c000:7885
<6>vesafb: pmi: set display start = c00c78d3, set palette = c00c7944
<6>vesafb: scrolling: redraw
<6>vesafb: Truecolor: size=0:5:6:5, shift=0:11:5:0
It looks like OpenSuse is doing an auto-detect and ignoring my settings, perhaps? The PCI Detection shows it correctly...
Hello Michal,
Would you be so kind and create OpenSuse RPMS with the latest openchrome 0.3.0 release candidate? It's an important release, because it contains support for Chrome9 merged from the experimental branch.
Thank you for your continuous work on making it easier for us, OpenSuse users, to take advantage of openchrome drivers. Your work is much appreaciated.
Hi, my name is matias, I'm from Uruguay and I need the video driver for the motherboard Biostar p4m890-pro M7 for opensuse 10.2. I downloaded the one that appears up but I couldn't make it work. Can you help me???
jirka@epia:~> glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
do_wait: drmWaitVBlank returned -1, IRQs don't seem to be working correctly.
Try running with LIBGL_THROTTLE_REFRESH and LIBL_SYNC_REFRESH unset.

1. 10.3 gnome is installed
2. System is online updated
3. I now have 1024x768 in 24bit. This is done with sax2, but
- I don't have graphic splash screen during booting, I have 1024x768 console
- I have 1024x768 gnome screen and it is working, but only with fbdev in xorg.cong
4. When I do "rpm -qa ..." I seen openchrome driver is installed, In official "Install software" I see only standard video-driver is installed with unichrome driver".
5. There is no way to use via driver, although it is been possible on 10.2 version, but now only fbdev, with via driver I get only - no device detected, no screen detected.
I have VN800 or "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. UniChrome Pro IGP (rev 01)"
I'm using the same graphic chip and can confirm that the rpm for openSUSE 10.3 is not working with it.
Unfortunately I don't know either what's going and how to solve it. Will try to compile it by myself.
Solution is provided now. Just search for "openchrome" at http://software.opensuse.org/search
You can 1-click install drivers and configure with "sax2 -r -m 0=via"
Back story is on https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=338119
Opensuse build service provided today package that work
It is not working with my 2 epia boards with cn266 and cn700
"No 3D capable graphic chipset found"
yes it's true, opensuse build service gives the rpm now :D it worked for me. i even posted about it here>http://sindhu.tumblr.com/post/34824976
Ubuntu 7.04 detected every device on a ASUS P4V8X-MX board with VIA P4M800, also recognized an ATI Radeon 9600XT 128 3D card (not like openSUSSE 10.3)
Wrong forum, sorry. This page is for people using OpenSuse with VIA Unichrome cards, not for those using Ubuntu with ATI cards. Try ranting somewhere else please.
does this work in ubuntu too?

HI, all
I've recently updated to 10.3, and now my dri doesn't work anymore. I managed to let it function in opensuse 10.2, but now I'm unable to have dri working. I tried installing the drm module and loading in the xorg.conf, but I get a seg fault. And when I use the openchrome via driver, there is some kind of conflict with the sound card (funny, isn't it?). Any idea of how troubleshoot all this mess?
I have OpenSuse 10.3 on a laptop with P4M900 chipset.
I have downloaded and installed the xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-189_openchrome412.i586.rpm, but don't work. (X can't start)
The http://wiki.openchrome.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=P4M900
says that this chipset needs an other source, but I cud not compile it.
./autogen.sh -- O.K.
make -- gives lots of error messages. The problem is: can't find lots of header files. The first of them is xf86.h
Cud you help me?
I have installed the xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-189_openchrome412.i586.rpm
and edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
but when I restarted my Xwindows it told me "no screen found"
I not find Openchrome drivers for Xorg 7.3.
I installed your package and edited the xorg.conf accordingly.
After a restart I end up on tty1, as xdm can't start successfully.
xorg.log.0 ends with "no device detected" "Fatal server error: no screens found"
I'm kind of lost now. from the logfile it appears that the via driver is correctly loaded and for some reason then no device is found. Don't know where to look next. I only switched to opensuse on the laptop b/c I didn't get sound to work on debian etch (which works flawless in opensuse 10.3) and didn't really expect trouble with the graphics card, openchrome worked in debian etch. any held would be greatly appreciated
Where i can find drivers to suse 11.0? Sorry... language... im from Poland and i dont speak english...
just search http://software.opensuse.org good luck
Hi,
I was successfull with this link:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:
/illuusio:/xorg/openSUSE_11.0/i586/xorg-x11-driver-video-openchrome-0.2.903-15.1.i586.rpm . In /etc/X11/xorg.conf, in the Section "Device", change the driver to "openchrome". That is all. Now restart X.. Details on http://www.openchrome.org/trac/wiki/Configuration.
Or try this link
http://software.opensuse.org/search ,
search for "openchrome" in opensuse 11.0 .
Here is a button "One Click Install".
Bye
Jirka
Please need the .rpm for opensuse 11.1 32 bits. Is for hp 2133 because I can't make install of openchrome.
Just FYI!
I was successful by using the official SUSE package "xorg-x11-driver-video-chrome9" from repository "http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video/openSUSE_11.1/".
Enter "Driver chrome9" in xorg.conf to use this one!!!
Supported chips are
This Chrome9 driver by VIA supports:
